DE Delmar Police, SP. This shoulder patch measures 4 1/2"H X 3 1/3"W and is done on white twill. Patch has black lettering and a thin gold laser cut border. Patch shows the Delaware and Maryland state seals with a diagonal line with the words "Mason Dixon Line" going through it. The Town of Delmar was founded in October 1859 with the extension of the Delaware Railroad to the southern boundary of Delaware. The Transpeninsular Line was responsible for the founding of this unique bi-state town because the Charter of the Delaware Railroad Company permitted only the building of a railroad within the State of Delaware and the charter of the corresponding railroad company in Maryland permitted only the laying of railroad track within the State of Maryland. Thus, in 1859, the two respective railroads met and the Town of Delmar was born. The name of Delmar was derived for this railroad center from the states whose line it straddles - DELaware and MARyland. Most people think that the words "Mason Dixon Line" refer to the North and the South Line from the Revolutionary War, when they don't. The Mason and Dixon's Line) was surveyed between 1763 and 1767 by Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon in the resolution of a border dispute between British colonies in Colonial America. It forms a demarcation line among four U.S. states, forming part of the borders of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and West Virginia (then part of Virginia). This is a 9 member department located in Sussex County.
